From the tender age of 11, photography captivated my heart, leading me to the dimly lit corners of the darkroom, where I would spend countless hours throughout high school, immersing myself in the art of developing photographs. Influenced by the legendary works of Freeman Patterson and Ansel Adams, I honed my craft, a pursuit that eventually guided me to the prestigious halls of Queen's University for art school.
My journey took a fascinating turn as I explored the realms of sculpture, painting, and drawing, only to find myself, two years later, inaugurating my gallery nestled in a quaint tourist village by the serene Lake Huron. For 25 years, this gallery blossomed into my primary vocation, a testament to my dedication and love for the arts.
Parallel to nurturing my gallery, I embarked on another creative path—that of a website designer. Drawing upon my artistic sensibilities and keen eye for visual composition, I founded Contigo Studio, where I blend the principles of art and design to create bespoke websites. This endeavor has allowed me to extend my canvas to the digital realm, where I apply my artistic vision and technical skills to craft unique online experiences that resonate with the essence of each brand I work with. In doing so, I’ve not only expanded my professional repertoire but also bridged the gap between traditional art and digital innovation, creating a harmonious balance between my passion for photography and my flair for web design.
To me, photography transcends mere capturing of moments; it is a deeply meditative process, a way of truly seeing and experiencing the world around us. My most treasured photographs emerge not from premeditation but from instinct—a raw, emotional response to the fleeting beauty of life. In these moments of pure focus, when my mind quiets, the magic of the unexpected unfolds, capturing the essence of the ephemeral light or an unanticipated scene with intense clarity.
This journey is not just about the art of observation but also about creation—crafting images that resonate on a personal level yet speak to a broader audience. As I venture forward, my goal is to share my work more broadly, hoping to connect with others who find meaning and beauty in these captured moments. In exploring the depths of what is most personal, I seek to uncover the universal truths that bind us, inspired by Carl Rogers' notion that "What is most personal is most general."
As I embark on this next phase, I am driven not only by the love of the process but also by the desire to create something enduring, something that invites others into the world as I see it, sparking a dialogue between my vision and their interpretations. Photography, for me, is not just a profession or a hobby; it is a way of life—a continuous exploration of the world through the lens of curiosity and creativity.
